The L-shaped Building has 126 apartment units on six floors.  Six of the units are two-bedroom, the remainder have a single bedroom.  Each corridor ends in a window at the stair entrance, and meets at the joining of the two wings in a six‑story atrium where resident lounge and dining facilities are located.

The facility was designed to foster social interaction.  The heart of this L-shaped plan is a six-story atrium housing the resident community social functions such as dining areas, lounges, a sundry store, a crafts shop, etc.  These activities are placed in full view from all apartment floors, allowing the residents to participate passively or actively with "the action".

Privacy and independence is provided by the separate corridors which lead from the central space to the autonomous individual apartments.  Each apartment has its own private outdoor terrace or balcony and looks out to the landscaped, park-like grounds.  Every design effort was directed toward encouraging the mental and physical activities of residents, to prevent them from becoming  less operative.  This, of course, included careful detailing in the building for safety and the needs of the physically handicapped.
