Leawood City Hall
Leawood, Kansas

Leawood City Hall is part of a civic center master plan which includes a new county library. Together both buildings help to form the perimeter to a wonderful outdoor plaza with fountains, landscaped planters and built-in benches. The brick pavers at the plaza were part of a civic fundraising effort and have names engraved in each masonry unity acknowledging the participants.

The exterior architectural motif, requested by the City Council, reflects an interpretation of Williamsburg style buildings with red brick walls, white-framed window units and dark color slate roof.

Public and staff parking are provided to one side of the building, opposite the entry plaza, to facilitate access and increase activity at the plaza.

The focal point for the building is a two-story council-chamber which is on axis to the building with symmetrical two story administrative office wings placed on each side. Offices and conferences rooms overlook both the entry plaza and gracious north yard while system furniture provides flexibility and future expansion for workstations within the building.

Features in the council-chamber include unique ceiling motif with decorative pendant mounted light fixtures; custom designed cherry wood cabinets which open up for A/V presentations; dias with built-in CCTV monitors; and state of the art A/V and camera system for recording and TV presentations. Acoustical fabric panels with cherry wood surrounds on the interior and stone panels on the exterior frame the curved two-story walls of the council chambers.
